How much would a decent touring bike cost?

Question by : How much would a decent touring bike cost?
I have a mountain bike, but i want to cycle just over 1000 miles in about 13 days with my tent and such, so a touring bike seems best for this kind of thing, im not really sure what to look for in a touring bike other than lots of places to hold luggage, how much would a decent one cost?

Best answer:

Answer by Mtrlpqbiker
Touring bikes don’t have “lots of places to hold luggage”. What they have is a frame designed with mounting points to which you attach racks that can hold pannier bags into which you load your gear. You can also install mudguards to protect you and the bike when you ride in wet weather. Some touring bikes will already have these accessories included in the price of the bike, so factor that in when you start looking at bikes. If the bike you buy does not have racks, you will have to pay extra to buy them. As for price, once you buy all the things you will need for an extended trip you will be close to the 1000 pound mark. That may seem like a lot, but don’t forget, that bike will still be yours for many years of cycling after you have done this ride. If you skimp on the bike you could run into problems once out on the road. The bike will have to be able to carry you and perhaps another 50 pounds of gear, so you need one built for your purpose

What is the average cost for a used road bike with flat tires?

Question by : What is the average cost for a used road bike with flat tires?
Bike: trek alpha 52cm road bike for $ 550

Best answer:

Answer by crazydave
Depending on the age and model of the bike that might be a little high. A brand new Trek 1.1 with an Alpha Aluminum frame retails brand new for less than $ 700.

If the person is trying to sell it with flat tires, I’d be very wary of the condition of the rest of the bike. Flats are an easy fix.

Answer by User8O
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t actually look at the link but what you want to look for in a bike is size and compatibility, when I say compatibility I mean what will you mainly be using it for, it will need to suit your lifestyle. If you want to know if they will ship it pre-made I’m sure the site has a contact address.
